The mustang population has exceeded the appropriate management level in the United States. There are currently over 80,000 mustangs in the wild in the western states. The appropriate number of mustangs allowed on the West rangeland is 26,000. The populated doubles every four years. Our goals are to get these horses tame, adoptable and in caring loving homes. To help spread the word, the Extreme Mustang Makeover was created to showcase these wild creatures and find them their forever homes.
Each competition selected trainers get assigned a mustang and have 100 days to train them. There is an adult division and a youth division adult must saddle break and youth only halter break. The competition is three events followed by a freestyle. After the freestyles all adult mustangs are up for a live auction to be adopted.
